Quiet Quitting? Really?

So, if you’ve read the popular press recently, you’ll have heard about this practice called “quiet quitting” which seems to have entered our vernacular and become a bit of a thing among some folks.

The idea behind it, if you weren’t aware, was not that an employee leaves their job, rather that they limit what they do to only what is strictly in their job description.

Are You About The Outcome Or The Process?

From early on, we’re taught to be “good” at our work which typically translates to developing strong, technical expertise.

We’re required to learn the right processes, the tools to be deployed and the results to be achieved as a result of following that process.

If we do this well, we’re hailed as ‘process experts’ which, generally speaking, is a good thing.

There Are No Grown-Ups

Near the end of Crypto.com’s SuperBowl commercial earlier this year, in which Lebron James goes back in time to talk to his 17 year old self, the younger Lebron asks his future self what’s most on his mind:

“Is the hype too much? Am I ready?”

He’s looking for reassurance, of course, some certainty that the choices he’s about to make, the risks he’s about to take, are the right ones. Valid concerns for a 17 year old.

The Underlying Lesson From Squid Game

In the blockbuster Netflix show, Squid Game, 456 contestants are pitted against each other (unwittingly, at first) in what is essentially a death match to see who will claim the $38 million grand prize.

I moderated a panel discussion this week about the topic of Sustainability, particularly as it relates to the Procurement function within organizations. It’s a big, meaty topic, one that has been getting plenty of airtime over the last decade and much more so in recent years.

And precisely because the subject is so big and meaty, there are many angles to it, many aspects to rethink, many stakeholders to get aligned. And, as a result, there are many actions that can be taken to effect change on this front.
