Progress Happens In Increments
The thing about progress is that it isn’t always exciting.
It’s gradual, incremental and consistent in its progression. That doesn’t mean it’s constant, of course. There will be backs and forths, one step back every now and then, but the overall movement is forwards. Step by step, as the gains compound and we find ourselves closer to our goals.
(Funnily enough, it’s the same thing with declines (when we lost our leading positions). They typically/rarely happen overnight. They’re also gradual in nature. One skipped practice, a sense of complacency, a rest on our laurels, so to speak. All contributing to the descent.)
So when we think we aren’t getting anywhere, it’s worth remembering that. Where we started and how far we’ve come in relation to where we’re going. What it took to make progress, the consistent effort required.
It’s worth remembering that if we put in the work, we’ll get there. The point is to maintain our (overall) discipline and work ethic.
Keep going.
