Just Start (And Omerisms Turns 4)
One of the things I love about kids is that they just get started.
Ask a 5 year old to paint, and they don’t worry about what they’ll paint, their technique, the precise color mix or anything else. They just grab a brush, pick a color and get going. No times wasted thinking, analyzing, pre-judging. They just do.
As we get older, we lose this. Too much thinking, analyzing and pre-judging. Before we’ve even tried.
Am I any good at this?
What if the product is rubbish?
What will others think?
Who am I to even try?
This is the problem. How many creatives have been lost to the ether because of rationalizations like these? Rationalizations that don’t make any sense.
Maybe it’s better to just get started. Think less and do more.
If it’s not good enough for you, no one needs to see it. But at least you tried. At least you had an outlet. At least you took the chance.
Life is about nothing, but taking our chances.
On that note, Omerisms turned 4 yesterday. Four years of two posts a week, week-in, week-out (pretty much). I struggled with all of the above before I got started. And then I just got started.
Thank you for reading these posts. Thank you for taking the time. Thank you for commenting or sharing your thoughts on those posts that most resonated.
