"You're a lot better off being scared than bored."
Harvey Mackay wrote those words more than 25 years ago in his book "Beware The Naked Man Who Offers You His Shirt" (you gotta love that title!). His intent was clear. In life, you have to take risks. You have to step out of your comfort zone. You have to do things that will push you.
And that's scary. It's difficult. But it's a whole heck of a lot better than being bored.
Boredom is stagnation.
I've tried to live by these words my entire career. Take on the assignment that isn't simple to execute. Volunteer for the role that doesn't always guarantee comfort. Take the path that is challenging. Quit your plum job to start that business with nothing but an idea and a laptop when you're months from making partner...
Are you guaranteed success? No.
But will it improve you as a person in the long run?
Absolutely.
